Smart Valu Pools recently had the privilege of working with SANCOB on a highly meaningful and specialised project — the design and construction of a quarantine pool for sick and injured seabirds.
The project began when we were invited to submit a quotation for a purpose-built rehabilitation pool. During our initial site visit, we met with Jade, the project manager, who shared SANCOB’s vision as well as challenges they had previously experienced with contractors. Understanding the sensitivity of their work and the importance of reliability, we carefully designed a solution that prioritised hygiene, safety, and ease of use for staff caring for vulnerable birds.

Our proposal was accepted, and construction soon got underway. The pool was built to a size of 3m x 3m x 1.2m and equipped with a bottom drain suction system for efficient cleaning, along with a surface weir to skim debris and maintain water clarity. A heat pump was installed to regulate water temperature, ensuring optimal comfort and recovery conditions for injured seabirds.
Working closely with SEICR Projects as the main building contractor, the project was completed with a beautifully finished structure and timber decking. This not only conceals the filtration system but also provides staff with an elevated vantage point to observe the birds during rehabilitation.

A collaboration that combined technical excellence with compassion, delivering a facility that will support SANCOB’s vital conservation work for years to come. It was a privilege to be part of this project, and incredibly rewarding for us as a business to contribute to such a well-known and meaningful cause.
